I am Mantas Proscevicius, a natural bodybuilding athlete and enthusiast. I was born in Lithuania in a town named Kaunas.
Since I was a little kid, I have always wanted to contribute to making the world a better place. I have been trying to identify the problems in the world and come up with solutions on how I would be able to solve them. Soon, I have faced a problem of having bad eating habits which became my biggest opponent for a long time.
I have been playing basketball for 6 years, representing the team of my local town. As the time went by, my passion for basketball slowly started fading away. It did not interest me at all and around 17 years of age, I have decided to quit altogether. It was a hard decision to make, as my parents were putting their hopes in me playing in the NBA one day and becoming a famous basketball player. It was a heart-breaking experience to see the hopes of my parents being demolished, but I thought that even if I could make my parents proud of me by becoming a successful basketball star, I wouldn’t be able to make them truly pleased because I have realised that basketball does not make me happy anymore.
At around 12 years of age, I started gaining weight. I had to do annual check ups, visiting sports doctors that would test my performance and ability to play basketball. Although I was gaining weight rapidly, I was still allowed to play basketball. After quitting the sport, my weight started increasing even more and at the age of 18, I was at my heaviest, weighing 134kg (295lbs). After my transition to London, I discovered fitness and started researching different topics pertaining to weight loss and nutrition. Soon it became my greatest passion and the greatest change I ever made in my life. I have started researching on healthy foods and their benefits for our health, the purpose of macro and micro nutrients and weight training. My greatest motivation for having a desired body, was my battle with obesity, for a long time in my life. Later, I have realised that there are a lot of people in the world, trying to fight obesity or even trying to lose a couple of pounds of unnecessary fat, which led me to my goal from my childhood days – to help the world to fight its problems. I have realised that I have beat my biggest opponent – obesity and I am capable of sharing my knowledge with the rest of the world.
In 2016, I have decided to sign-up for my first competition in bodybuilding and this decision was life-changing. As I did not have any coach, I have managed to get to a single-digit body fat percentage and compete in BNBF (British Natural Bodybuilding Federation) Juniors category. Due to the acquired knowledge and past experiences, I have dieted for over 12 weeks and have managed to place third in my category. Being 6’7ft tall, I have never considered my height as an excuse to get my dream physique and I have focused myself towards my competition as being the end-goal and the final battle against myself. Stepping on stage was probably the greatest feeling in my life, seeing the crowd cheer for you, my life just flashbacked through my eyes and I started seeing visions of my struggles of losing weight, obesity, being ridiculed about my weight and all those hard-working hours I have dedicated to becoming the best version of myself. Signing up for a competition and coming out with a trophy, has led me to believe that weight loss is not an obstacle and looks rather small, compared to what potential awaits for me, only if I put my mind towards it.
